Reflections

                                                 From Rev. Barbara K. Gulick

Interim Minister

So here we stand hovering on the brink of another new year. The hopes and fears of all our years focus on the coming of 2008.  We pause as people of faith, as individuals and as church, to contemplate what the coming year may hold for us.  Considering the challenge that the last month of the old year has been, it gives us pause, indeed.

Speaking personally, despite an unexpected trip to the ER and subsequent hospital stay, I found the blessings to far outweigh the concerns.  I am particularly appreciative of the outpouring of care and prayers from you here at MCC.  I truly believe that you set me on the road to a speedy recovery with your compassion, grace and patience.

And oh my, the weather has challenged us already, even before the start of winter. But by postponing rather than canceling services on December 16th, Millersburg CC proved to be unique in the region, refusing to allow weather to prevent us from gathering to worship.  Our last minute, 4:00 worship was a beautiful testament to the flexibility and resourcefulness of this congregation and to the working of the Holy Spirit in our midst.  Each of you, who were able to be here that afternoon, experienced the power and presence of the spirit as we joyfully prepared for the coming of the Lord into our lives and into the life of our congregation.

None of us can know what the new year will bring.  No doubt, like most years, it will bring a mixture of new concerns and joyous new blessings.  But I would like to offer a prediction for my new church family at MCC.  2008 will be a year of revitalization, revival, and renewal.  The outpouring of love and joy I have already experienced in your midst is ample evidence of God at work.  God has great plans for us this year as we anticipate our next 150 years of love and care to one another and to the world.

May God richly bless each and every one of you in the coming year,

                                Barbara

Epiphany Dinner, January 6, 2008

Come celebrate Epiphany at a fellowship dinner after worship on Sunday, January 6, 2008.  Please bring a vegetable, salad, or dessert to share.  Meat will be provided.  (We froze the meat from the cancelled Dec. 15 dinner.)   Good food, good fellowship, a good way to start the new year!

Annual Reports Due

All committee chairs and constituency group leaders need to have their annual reports submitted to Luella Randolph by Sunday, January 6.  These reports summarize the work of the committees over the past year.  The information helps future committee’s better plan future work.  Also, the report becomes an important historical account of the way our congregation has served the Kingdom of God.

President’s Ponderings

Yes, I agreed to serve as President of the Board for 2008.  It’s not official yet, as the Board hasn’t confirmed my nomination yet, but I’m grabbing the “President’s Ponderings” column anyway.  I enjoy working with the dedicated and loving people that make up Millersburg Christian Church, and I consider it an honor to serve as president.  I ask that you consider what you can do to help our congregation continue serving Christ in this place, at this time.

Grab the opportunity to make a difference in the work of the church.  Let’s get our new board up and running, staff our committee chair positions, and fill up our committees!  Everyone should serve on at least one functional committee of the church – Christian Education, Membership and Evangelism, Missions and Outreach, Property, Stewardship and Finance, and Worship.  Participating in one of these committees is the best way to have input into the work and ministries of the congregation.

Thanks, Lord, for the opportunity to serve, Barbara Moran
